The members of Mixed Media Art Group would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!!

And we want to thank you for a great year!!!

Thanks for taking the time to view our work on this blog, on our website and on our Facebook page throughout 2013. You, our followers, have shown so much enthusiasm for what we have been working on and we appreciate your interest! We look forward to bringing you lots of new and fabulous art in 2014!!!

Here are some candid photos taken during our recent reception at Arts on Union. The photos really show the fun nature of this group!!! There are 18 of us, and although some are missing from the photos, we are all united in the spirit of creativity within this group.

There is still time to see our current exhibit at Arts on Union, 203 N Union St, Middletown, PA. Visit us Saturdays and Sundays NOW through January 2014. Small paintings, cards, prints, wine glasses and other art objects from our artists will be available for purchase. The gallery is open Saturdays and Sundays through the end of January. Saturday hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m, Sundays,noon to 4 p.m. Contact us if you need a special time or private showing.

Arts on Union in December

Arts on Union will exhibit work by the Mixed Media Art Group, Saturday, Dec. 7 through Jan. 26 at the gallery and studio, 203 North Union St, Middletown, PA. The public is invited to a free reception with the artists on Saturday, Dec. 7 from 5 to 9 p.m. Gallery hours are Saturdays from 11 am to 4 pm and Sundays from noon to 4 pm.

Painters, photographers and assemblage artists from Central Pennsylvania comprise the MMAG. The group exhibits and sells its art locally, nationally and internationally. Media include encaustic, collage, mixed media, acrylic, watercolor, oil, cold wax, photography, assemblage, and digital. Styles range from traditional to contemporary and exploratory. Large and small works at affordable price points will be available throughout the exhibition.

Judy Kelly at AAH Invitational

Mixed Media Art Group member, Judy Kelly, aka robot Girl, will be showing her amazing robot assemblages at the upcoming 5 Artist Invitational Exhibit at the Art Association of Harrisburg. The exhibit opens Friday, December 6th, with an artist reception from 5 pm – 8 pm. Judy’s robots will be on display along with 4 other artists until January 2, 2014.

Judy is a mixed media, collage, and assemblage artist from Harrisburg. She began making her robots just a few years ago, out of a passion for her love of small and interesting objects. She scours local flea markets for materials and it is there that one of the dealers dubbed her “Robot Girl”.

Mixed Media Art Group at CALC

Mixed Media Art Group will be exhibiting “Into the Mix” at Carlisle Arts Learning Center September 13-October 5. Visit with the artists at the opening reception this Friday, September 13, 6:30-8pm at CALC, 38 W Pomfret Street, Carlisle, PA. Come see a wide variety of mixed media, photography, cold wax, encaustic and digital art.

CALC serves and enriches the community by encouraging creativity and self-esteem through exploration and appreciation of the visual arts. It does this via classes and workshops, exhibits, and participation in community events. Since its founding in January 1992, CALC has offered a variety of courses for children and adults in a number of settings, including the Carlisle YWCA, Carlisle Community Center, One West Penn, Cumberland Crossings, and Memorial Park Train Station.

M & M’s Exhibit in 25th Gallery Walk

Mixed Media Art Group will be exhibiting during Harrisburg’s 25th Annual Gallery Walk at Pine Street Presbyterian Church, 310 N Third Street, Harrisburg, PA on Sunday, September 8, 11am-6pm.

Members Tami Bitner, Joan Maguire, Christine Goldbeck and Bob McCloskey will be demonstrating their painting skills outside and you can visit with other members and view some outstanding artwork inside! It’s a guaranteed great stop on the tour of Harrisburg’s finest galleries!!!

And don’t forget that many of our M & M members will also have art on display at the Art Association of Harrisburg for the Annual Membership Show, with “Literary Allusions” theme. We look forward to seeing you at both locations!!!

Summer Fun for M & M’s

Even during the heat of the summer, our M & M’s are busy creating new work and exhibiting throughout South Central Pennsylvania. Here are some highlights from our summer activities:

Judy Kelly won 1st place for Mixed Media at the Art Association of Harrisburg Annual Student show in July.

Tina Berrier won 2nd place for Mixed Media for her piece Dolce, at the Art Association of Harrisburg Annual Student show in July,

Thom Kulp was one of the featured artists at the LGBT Center’s 2nd Annual Colors of Pride show July 20.

Linda Benton McCloskey won best of show at the 47th Annual Outdoor Show in Lititz Springs Park on July 27.

Tami Bitner also displayed at the 47th Annual Outdoor Show in Lititz Springs Park on July 27 and won 2nd place for Mixed Media (for the piece she is holding in this photo).

Ann Yeager Lawson has art displayed at WLAN, “We Love Art Now” Gallery, 252 North Queen Street, Lancaster PA. Her piece shown left, is part of the exhibit which will run through April 28th.

Heavy Metal by Thom Kulp

Thom Kulp and Robert McCloskey are participating in the York Art Associations Spring Members Exhibit, 220 S Marshall St York, PA. The show will be on display through May 18th.

Tina Berrier with her 3rd place winner!!!

Tina Berrier and Judy Kelly have been accepted to the Mechanicsburg Art Center Juried Show, 18 Artcraft Dr, Mechanicsburg, PA, which opened this past Friday, April 12th. Tina won a 3rd place award for one of her entries to the show which will be on display until May 3rd.

Joan Maguire at City House Bed & Breakfast

Joan Maquire will be the featured artist in Third in the Burg at City House Bed & Breakfast, 915 N Front St Harrisburg, PA on April 19, 6-9pm.

Doug Tomlinson at the Capital 10 Miler

Doug Tomlinson and Susan Darling recently participated in the The CAPITAL 10-MILER in Harrisburg, PA, a run/walk event that benefits many arts organizations of the capital region. Doug ran the 10 miles, while Susan walked it! Way to go! Support the Arts!!!

Judy Kelly in Harrisburg Magazine

Our congratulations go out to M & M member, Judy Kelly who was recently featured in the Gallery Space section of the March, 2013 issue of Harrisburg Magazine. Judy, aka “Robot Girl” was interviewed by Scott Campbell for her whimsical assemblages that resemble miniature robots. Judy is a charter member of the Mixed Media Art Group and exhibits her work regularly with the group.

M & M’s in Gallery Walk

This Sunday, September 9, from 11:00am till 6:00pm the Mixed Media Art Group (M & M’s) will be participating in the 24th Annual Harrisburg Gallery Walk in Harrisburg, PA. A variety of mixed media art and photography from our members will be on display at the Pine Street Presbyterian Church, 310 North 3rd St. (side entrance, Third & South St. into the “Gathering Place”

Gallery Walk is a long time tradition in Harrisburg, sponsored by the Art Association of Harrisburg. The walking tour includes 21 locations in galleries, restaurants, and businesses throughout the city. You can obtain complete tour information and locations by clicking here.
